The CREATE Method

Creativity  With Purpose

At A Heart For Art, we believe children learn best when they are actively creating, experimenting, solving problems, and sharing ideas.

That’s why every A Heart For Art experience is guided by our signature CREATE Method™ a six-part framework designed to help students build confidence, strengthen creative thinking, and develop problem-solving skills through art, STEM, and hands-on making.

Each step gives students space to explore while still providing enough structure to help them feel successful.

Connect

Every session begins with connection. Students participate in a short icebreaker or group activity that helps them relax, engage with classmates, and enter the creative space feeling welcomed and ready to participate.
Creativity grows best when children feel safe enough to try.

Reveal

Students are introduced to the day’s materials, tools, creative challenge, and any related art, engineering, or STEM concepts.
Students learn what they’ll be working with, explore possibilities, and begin imagining what they might create.

Explore

Students begin building, designing, painting, assembling, or experimenting.

Projects are broken into manageable steps so children can experience success throughout the process rather than feeling overwhelmed by the finished product.
Students learn that beautiful creations aren’t made all at once—they are built one step at a time.

Adapt

Experiment, solve problems, and make the project your own.

Students are encouraged to adjust their ideas, troubleshoot problems, experiment with materials, and discover new solutions.
This step helps children understand that mistakes are not failures, only opportunities to think differently, make changes, and keep going.

Tell

Students have an opportunity to show what they made and talk about their creative process.

They may explain a design choice, describe a challenge they solved, share something they discovered, or simply tell the group what they like most about their creation.
Sharing helps students build confidence, communication skills, and pride in their work.

Encourage

Celebrate effort, creativity, and each other’s progress.

Every session ends with encouragement.
Students learn to recognize their own growth while also celebrating the ideas and accomplishments of others.

More Than a Craft Project

The CREATE Method™ is designed to help children develop skills they can carry far beyond the art table.

Through creative enrichment, students practice:

  • Creative thinking

  • Problem-solving

  • Engineering and design thinking

  • Communication

  • Collaboration

  • Persistence

  • Fine-motor skills

  • Confidence

  • Flexibility

  • Self-expression

The goal is for every child to leave thinking:

“I made this. I figured it out. I can create.”

We Believe It Is Human Nature to Create

Humans  do not have to sell what they make for it to be meaningful.

We do not have to create something perfect as we are not perfect.

We don't have to be professionals for our art to benefit the world.

The value in creating is simply in imagining an idea and bringing it to life with your own hands.

At A Heart For Art, we want children to rediscover the joy of making, building, experimenting, and creating simply because creativity is central to being a well rounded human being.

Bring the CREATE Method™ to Your School

A Heart For Art offers weekly after-school creative enrichment experiences for children ages 7–12.

Our programs combine art, STEM, engineering, collaboration, and hands-on learning in a structured environment designed to help children create with confidence.
